TEA BOWLS

Back

Opening a kiln always yields surprises. I prefer the base of this pot. It is a chawan, for ceremonial tea, but will no doubt be used for some other purpose. The pot was over-glazed with an ash glaze, which form the characteristic flow effect

A new series of tea-bowl shapes. Thery are always intriguing to make, bearing in mind the philosophy behind their use. This is quite small, about 10 cms. The bowl expresses a new type of firing, using both gas and charcoal.
