TEA BOWLS

Back

It is 2012 and I am in my 86th year. For the Adelaide Festival of Arts I decided to make eighty-six yunomi, or tea-cups. (I also use them for coffee.) They are about the size of a normal-type tea-cup. My agent (and friends, Steve and Pat Ronayne) at the Aptoz Cruz gallery (so-named after their American home) will exhibit them.

Many potters measure themselves against the strict eye of the 'cha-jin' of Japan. The philosophy of what is known as 'wabi-cha' is a constant challenge. The book on this subject I like most is 'Wind in the Pines' by Dennis Hirota.
