GALLERY TEA BOWLS |
This 'chawan' is rather shallow and would be chosen for a summer tea ceremony occasion. Many Korean tea-bowls were of this type. |
I wondered whether the 'sturdiness' of this bowl would meet with a tea master's approval. Some feet on bowls of this type are often smaller, giving a 'floating' feeling', but one has to be careful that this doesn't lead to instability. |
The dry feeling of this tea-bowl expresses the Australian 'outback' lands. The contradiction, of course, is that anything as culturally refined as a tea ceremony is the last thing one would expect in this outback land. |
